Create a place of Zen!

Life has become busy and stressful and now more than ever people need and want a place they can escape, to take time out to relax and unwind, and recharge our energy.  You might picture a retreat somewhere up in the mountains or a simple picnic under a beautiful tree as you become one with nature. These are great ways to regenerate our mind and bodies but can be hard to make time to actually do them and to do it often enough to give us benefit over the course of our lives.

At Bathrooms by Grace we believe there is no better way to achieve daily relaxation and regeneration than in creating your very own bathroom oasis! A place within your home that you can easily step into no matter what time of day. A place you want to be in not just for its practicality.

For clients her prefer calm before anything else the following Renovation tips will help you achieve just that!

Function First

A well designed bathroom is key to creating a relaxing bathroom. There should be segregated  spaces for various rituals of getting ready.  If you like soaking in the tub at night than a large tub should be your centrepiece.  If you love long hot showers like me then your shower should include a shower head that can vary the water output.   Your bathroom should suit you and your families needs and desires.

Large size Materials

In Large bathrooms uninterrupted walls of stone offer permanence.  Larger slabs on walls as opposed to subway tiles represent minimalism creating a more relaxing space.

Neutral Finishes

Materials such as wood or stone will evoke feelings of nature and calm and keep your space neutral yet modern.  Beige tones and whites are colours of calm and are also timeless so your bathroom will look modern for years to come.  Paint in these neutral earthy tones  will also achieve this calm feeling.

Creative Lighting

This is key in a bathroom especially when it comes to relaxation!  Recessed lighting such as down lights and lights behind a mirror, (shown in picture below) are a great way to set a relaxing atmosphere. Chandeliers above or near a bath are a new trend and a classic choice.  Skylights are a great natural source of light apart from windows and offers benefits of power savings.

Freestanding Tub

A Freestanding tub provides a visual focal point for a room but importantly offers a relaxing space to unwind . They can incorporate unusual materials such as wood, stone or even a  combination of materials. A soak in a warm bath is bliss on a sore tired body and even better is placing your tub near a window enabling one to gaze out into nature and reduce stress while taking a moment to yourself.

These are just a few of the ways we can make our bathrooms relaxing and achieving this space

doesn’t have to cost you a fortune either.  Simple colour changes, a lush plant , artwork, candles, calming scents and homeware décor can make all the difference. However it is important to remember as Brad Zeligson, president of elegant bathroom accessories says, “a relaxing space is one that’s free of clutter and impeccably designed”.

Bathrooms are no longer places we simply pass through they now offer a place to ZEN!
